What Is On-Page SEO
According to Moz, On-Page SEO is,
On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals.
In today’s article, we will talk about On-Page SEO Optimization, and I will share many useful On-Page SEO techniques that you must implement to optimize your blog posts.
Now, first of all, let’s find out the difference between on-page SEO and on-site SEO so you don’t get confused.
- The term On-Site is used when we are optimizing all the pages of the entire website, which also includes settings for sitemaps and permalink structures and so on.
On-Page SEO means optimizing the content of your single blog posts to rank for a particular target keyword. It includes proper headings, proper keyword placement, ensuring the quality of content and paying attention to other factors.
On-Page SEO is a very important factor in bringing your Blog to the 1st page on the search engine. If you want to get the most traffic from your search engine then you should pay attention to it.
To do On-Page SEO optimization, you will need to do a bit more effort but it will take some time for you to get a better result. Now, let me also tell you why you will take a little more time to get its result. This is because Google does not give much PageRank to any new site or any unknown site. Regardless, if you do proper SEO, the site won’t even get indexed quickly. For this, you have to pay attention to some important things that we can do on our website.
10 ON-PAGE SEO OPTIMIZATION TIPS
1. Keyword Research
Do you know the basic part of search engine optimization starts with “keyword research”? Because, before writing any article, it is important to know about it. This is because if I’m going to write a new article than I should know about it’s search value, so I would find out whether my topic or keyword is being searched on the internet or not
So basically, when we write an article we find which keywords are being used to search this topic on Google. It is called the focus keyword. So it is very important to know this because sometimes what happens is new bloggers focus on writing articles only and unfortunately their posts rank on such keywords which people who do not even search. And the result is they don’t get any traffic on their blog.
So in conclusion, to get organic traffic on our content we need to find a keyword that can generate quality traffic and optimize our content around that keyword in such a way that it attracts more traffic and users stay longer on the article.
Below I have mentioned the places in which you have to add your focus keyword,
- Title Tag
- Image Alt tag
- First Paragraph
- Last Paragraph
- Meta description
2. Title Tag
The second thing you have to take care of is the title tag because it is the first step towards writing an article. But you would be surprised to know that there’s a proper and specific way to write it.
Most successful bloggers believe this that the title should be short and compelling. And the most important thing to remember is that the main keyword should be used in the title. You can use it anywhere in between also, as that would also work but I prefer using it in the beginning. You should also note NOT TO USE your main keyword more than once in the title of your post, as it does not look natural and hence users won’t click it and slowly Google would start to penalize your article which would drop the ranking of your post. Some important tips
- Use the main keyword in the title
- Try writing list post (for eg – 15 Actionable Tips for success)
- Use figures ( for eg – Grow your blog to $1000 in 3 months)
- Use brackets ( for eg – [updated], (new), [checklist])
Here are some examples,
Like the title, the blog post URL is also very important in On-Page SEO. And like the other factors, it should also be given great importance. So if you are wondering what should be the permalink of a blog post? Understand the following points and examples properly.
- A short URL will be better for SEO. Google also prefers short URL
- We give the title to the post then WordPress Automatically generates the link the same as the title. In such a situation, remove any unwanted character like if there is a number or symbol in it then you should remove it.
- Like the title, use the main keyword in the Permalink.
4. Use Main Keyword In The First 100 Words
Now I will tell you how to begin any article that can increase your ranking. Always keep one thing in mind that whatever is your main keyword the first paragraph should always contain the main keyword in the first 100 words. And if possible, try to use that word only once or twice in the first paragraph.
Now comes, heading. Headings make any article user-friendly and give the visitor an idea of the topic they are about to read. This makes the user easy to read and understand the article. Google bots love it too! That’s why always use 2 to 3 heading in your content.
But, one thing you always have to take care of which new bloggers do not know and they make a mistake is not to use the H1 heading tab at the beginning of the article. Now you think why?
The platform we use for blogging, whether it is Google Blogger or WordPress or any other CMS (Content Management System Tool) it is built in such a manner that the title tag you give to every post by default will become your H1 tag. That is why there is no need to take H1 again. Google has even mentioned this thing in that, there cannot be two main headings in one article. That’s why to start with H2 directly.
Now the second thing is, there should be at least 2 headings in the whole article which should contain the main keyword.
6. Use Meta Description
A meta description is a short description of the post appearing beneath the title in the search engine.
Use the targeted keyword at least once in the meta description. And the length of the meta description should be at least 180 characters.
7. Boost The Website Speed
If your site takes a lot of time to load, then it is a bad sign for your blog’s SEO. The most important factor in SEO is the speed of the site.
So if you want to boost the speed of your site, first you have to know the current speed of the site. To know the speed of the site, you can do it use GMetrix, Google Page Speed Tool and Think With Google. If the speed of your site is slow then follow the steps mentioned on this website to increase the speed.
If you run a blog on WordPress then it’s important that you use a good web hosting. Apart from this, you can boost the speed of the site by removing plugins, widgets and bin unessential multimedia.
8. Reduce Bounce Rate
Bounce Rate means the percentage of visitors who visit just one page on your site and leave it. You can find out about this on your google analytics tool.
When the website bounce rate is high, it gives a negative feedback to the search engine. You can reduce the bounce rate by following the 11 steps given below:
- Improve the readability of content.
- Remove popups from the website.
- Create call-to-action inside the web page.

- Create at least one author box in the post.

9. Use Outbound Links
The presence of only text on the web page is not all, you have to link authority websites to your blog or website.
Many people do not give outbound links, they believe that their visitor will move to another site. This thing is absolutely wrong.
You have to link other authority sites to your site whenever you get a chance. This will increase the trust of your readers as they will get to know how much research you have done. When we read a book, many times we see that the book’s author mentions the research taken from other books.
You should learn from Wikipedia about the impact of outbound links on the search engine. Wikipedia is a website that will get you many outbound links on every page.
Linking website to your blog doesn’t mean you link any random website. You should link to at least one or two websites, whose DA (Domain Authority) is very high.
10. Correct the structure of internal links
Internal links are the links given to other pages of your own website on your webpage.
If you correct the structure of internal links, you will not only increase the ranking of the page but also increase the value the other pages you link to.
How to fix internal links: If you have not already created or created internal links on your pages then you can use the tips given below.
- Interlink only related articles.
- Remove the links which are not related immediately.
- Give internal links to your page within the paragraph, if possible.
- Every time give a new anchor text to the link.
- Use a high volume keyword in the anchor text of the link.
11. [BONUS!] Optimize Image
Image optimization is a very important factor in SEO. By optimizing images you can increase the rank of your webpage on search engines.
You have to optimize the image in 2 ways. First, you have to reduce the image size of the image and second, you have to give an alt tag to images.
If you use WordPress then you will find many plugins from which you can optimize the size of the image.
You can use tools like compressor.io to compress the images if you are using Google Blogger.
Secondly, you should have an alt tag on every image of yours. It will be beneficial to use high volume keywords as alt tags.
